The History of Stōgo

Several years ago, one of Stōgo’s founders, restaurateur and health enthusiast Steve Horn, was having dinner with his friend Rob Sedgwick and said, “I have a great idea for an ice cream store: vegan ice cream.”

Rob agreed that it was a great idea, and immediately Steve did some research and found that the Master of Ice Cream is an expert named Malcom Stogo, who along with his partner, Bill Lambert, formulated and advised many of the most successful ice cream products in history, from Carvel to Häagen Dazs, from TCBY Stores to Columbo Yogurt.

Steve and Rob enrolled in Malcolm’s Ice Cream University, where entrepreneurs learn all the fundamentals of running an ice cream business, and met Malcolm. “What?” Malcolm said when Steve announced the plan. “Vaginism? Vegenusiasm?” He didn’t look at Steve for the rest of the class.

Meanwhile Steve and Rob set about learning the business, and Malcolm finally said, “Call me if you need help. Bye.” Steve did call, over and over, sending Malcolm articles about veganism and health. Meanwhile, Malcolm’s own health needed a little improvement, and the more he thought about it, the more he began to get it. One day he called Steve and said, “Healthy ice cream! Yes! I see!”

From that moment on, the world’s leading expert on ice cream was excited, involved, and became part of the Stōgo story. And that’s why the store is called Stōgo, after the man who invented the best ice cream for the twenty-first century.
